Watercolour Workshop with Penny Walton
Botanical Art
Botanical Art
A six-hour watercolour workshop taught by artist Penny Walton - a fantastic opportunity for plant lovers to get confidence with painting.
Fee includes all art materials, and a mouth-watering lunch from local gourmet whiz Lucinda's Pantry.
Starting out in pencil, students will begin by looking at plant shapes and how to render form through stippling and hatching.
From there, Penny and her students will progress into watercolour. Firstly exploring the different ways of laying washes, and then learning about colour mixing and opening their eyes to all the variations of green.
This class is for you if you want to:
- Gain an understanding of plant form and colour.
- Develop a sharper eye for observing and improve your ability to create intricate details like veins or mottling on leaves.
- Gain the confidence to work on small sketches outdoors, or paint plants from your garden.
The day will finish with a full colour study of a plant specimen.
Penny has been teaching botanical art in regional galleries, community colleges and privately for many years.
Suitable for beginners and up.
Penny Walton has always had a love for the Australian bush and its native wildlife.
She studied at the Julian Ashton Art School in the 1970s before working as a freelance children’s book illustrator in Sydney and England, and has been teaching botanical art in regional galleries, community colleges and privately for many years.
Penny shares her time between her home in the Hunter Valley and Sydney’s northern beaches where she enjoys sharing her love of plants and art with her many students.
This class uses pencil and watercolour paints. All art materials are included in the class fee for your convenience.
