Workshop with Jamie Preisz
Painting Still Life
Painting Still Life in Oils
Join Jamie Preisz for a six-hour oil painting workshop designed to help beginners feel confident with oils and give experienced painters hands-on skill development.
Fee includes all art materials and a delicious healthy lunch.
Working from life, students will create a still life composition on a wood panel, choosing a selection of flowers, fruit, busts, and animal skulls.
Whether you're brand new to oils or already painting regularly, this workshop meets you where you are. Beginners get step-by-step guidance and support to build your confidence, while experienced painters can refine their skills, ask for a critique, and benefit from advanced technique demonstrations.
Jamie is a patient and kind teacher who combines whole class teaching with personalised guidance to ensure maximum learning for every student.
This class is for you if you want to:
- Learn how to build a still life painting. Working from the initial sketch through to the final touches.
- Understand still life composition and how to arrange objects and establish strong relationships between them.
- Learn fundamental oil painting techniques including blocking in, colour mixing with a limited palette, and varied brushwork.
- Learn to see values and paint in monochrome before adding colour. This is a key skill that will help you to create dimensional, realistic work.
- Develop your ability to refine edges, suggest texture, and add the finishing touches that bring a painting to life.
All levels (from beginners & intermediates, through to advanced) will receive individual attention and feedback to develop your skills further.
Born in 1990, Jamie works across still life and painting, employing a classical oil painting technique to depict contemporary objects and symbolic arrangements. His work blends traditional aesthetics with modern subject matter, creating a dynamic interplay between past and present.
Trained classically in painting both in Sydney and at the Paris College of Fine Arts, Jamie has received multiple accolades, including the Packing Room Prize for the Archibald, GQ Man Of the Year Artist Award, and has been a finalist in numerous prestigious art awards.
He has exhibited globally and his work is held in various private and public collections.
He currently lives and works in Lisbon, Portugal.
This class uses oil paints. All art materials (including odourless solvent) are included in the class fee, for your convenience.
