Mezzanine Launch Show
22 Sep - 29 Oct 2022
Spud Lane Galleries Presents:
The Mezzanine
The funkiest art space in the Highlands just got BIGGER and better. Allow us to present the long-awaited mezzanine addition to our laneway gallery!
Kicking off the Mezz, is a show with a nod to Andy Warhol. Warhol's second studio on 47th St. NY, nicknamed The (Silver) Factory, was a shining silver space covered in Aluminium foil and silver spray paint designed by Billy Linich.
Like Warhol's factory, the Mezz has a shining silver roof, just a short distance above your head, and gallery co-director and resident artist Ric Abel has hung grids of his flat images referencing Warhol's love of repetition.
The floor is painted with artwork that references Ric's restauranteur past, with the same motif that adorned the musician's alcove of the Artichoke Gallery Cafe in Sydney's Manly.
The Mezz is decked out with seating for you to engage with the artwork, sculpture by Highlands artist Lucinda McDonald, plus a sneak preview of Ric Abel's long-awaited Triffids exhibition.
We can't wait to welcome you to our mezzanine and continue our shared passion for contemporary art.
