Hadyn Wilson Exhibition
3 Aug - 18 Aug 2024
Spud Lane Gallery presents:
HADYN WILSON — My How Things Have Changed: A Displaced Narrative
Over the last 5 years Hadyn Wilson has held 3 major exhibitions at the State Library of NSW, Macquarie University, and New England Regional Art Museum (NERAM). This exhibition brings together 77 works reinterpreting objects from the collections of the three institutions giving them an alternative history that lies somewhere between truth and fiction.
Including much of Wilson's alternative history of the Howard Hinton collection which were exhibited in An Historical Novel. (An Archive of Found Histories) at NERAM in 2019; the remaining works are drawn from Fake Truths: An historical Novel at the State Library in 2021; and Wilson's joint exhibition with Patrick Shirvington: Artifactual Fictions – Unseen Dialogue at Macquarie University library last year.
The three bodies of work represented in My How Things Have Changed: A Displaced Narrative show the progression of Wilson's art practice between 2019 and 2023
and his deepening engagement with storytelling. “One of the overwhelming insights is not only how things have changed politically and technologically, but how little they have changed when examining the human condition.”—Hadyn Wilson, 2023.
Many of these works are available for the first time.

Hadyn Wilson has been a practicing artist for over forty years and has exhibited widely throughout Australia and internationally, with exhibitions across painting, sculpture, and installation. Hadyn’s art practice explores relationships between past and present, the real and imaginary, history and myth. He originally trained at Julian Ashton Art School, then completed a Graduate Diploma at ANU, a Masters Degree from UNSW, and a PhD from Newcastle Uni. He has won a number of prizes including the Gallipoli Art Prize and the Mosman Art Prize and has been a finalist in the Archibald Prize, Sulman Prize, and Wynne Prize. Hadyn spends his time between his studio and home in Wollombi (Hunter Valley) and his Sydney studio at Coburn Fine Art in Georges Heights, Mosman.
